23rd February 2013: Generator is disassembled.

Cutout

The Cutout was not as discribed in the books, nevertheless same functional principle. May be French origin. We intended to restore it, but it is heavily rusted in the inside and we abandoned the idea of restoring. We have to aquire a new or a good used one.

Brushes and output terminal

See text below repective picture. The condition was not good!

Main brush in the back, connected to the output terminal, movable third brush to the left connected to the field coil to regulate the strength of the magnetic field, ground brush in the front connected to the housing via a wire screw to a hold down clip .

Generator is restored, reassembled and testet and running! See text below pictures..

We used the Model A Ford Generator Brush Holder Hardware Set - 23 Pieces from Macs

Brush holders sandblasted and replated (zinc)

Only cleaned.

New field coils

Extra bolt for ground contact of field coils.

Field coils had to be pressed in the vise for propper fit.

Commutator cleaned only.

new bearing.

Test run!

Final paint after assembly.

As cutout we use an electronic Voltage Regulator Version, as we could not easily locate an original one and the original reproductions seem to be of low quality. We may replace it at some time.
